WHY ROW
Crew is perhaps the ultimate team sport. Success depends on all rowers giving their greatest possible effort. This effort requires power (in the delivery of each stroke), balance and coordination (in the delivery of each stroke and among all the team members), and endurance (in sustaining this effort over the full length of the race, past the point of exhaustion). The work also must be in unison – rowers must work to make the team a smoothly function unit, not to stand out individually. The teamwork and discipline developed serve rowers throughout their lives.Rowing is a total body sport involving all major muscle groups. The legs, back, upper body, and arms work together for each stroke, and sustaining this effort delivers a full aerobic workout of heart and lungs. Rowers are among the world’s most physically fit athletes.
Who rows?
Rowing is a lifetime sport – youthful rowers graduate to Masters events at age 27, and many rowers continue into old age. Rowers are categorized by sex, age, experience, and weight to provide opportunities for everyone; there also are crews that mix men and women.
WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN BI CREW
Crew is the ultimate team sport because it requires athletes to work in perfect unison, to move their boat as one or speed is lost. There are no individual stars or MVPs—no other sport demands more teamwork
Rowing is the ultimate walk-on sport — no experience is necessary! The coaching staff takes care of all the training. All you need is dedication and spirit. BI Crew is open to all grades and is recruiting both men and women.
You will be part of the BI Sports program. Did you know that CREW is the fastest growing high school sport AND it is the oldest intercollegiate sport with its start in the mid 1800. Keep in mind that colleges award scholarships for crew athletes.
You will be in the best physical shape of your life! Rowing exercises more muscle groups than any other sport. Rowing looks graceful, elegant and sometimes effortless, but rowers aren’t called the world’s most phycially fit athletes for no reason!!
Crew is FUN! It is a committed co-ed sport that creates school pride, teamwork building, and bonds many friendships. The team is supported by a dedicate group of parents, coaches and supporters. You will become part of a very special racing team whose spirit and camaraderie is infectious. Check us out!
